Frequently Asked Questions
What is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome?
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is a common condition that affects how a woman’s ovaries work.It affects millions of women in the UK. The main features of the condition are:
- Cysts that develop in your ovaries (polycystic ovaries)
- Your ovaries do not regularly release eggs (ovulate)
- High levels of ‘male hormones’ called androgens in your body
Symptoms usually become apparent during your late teens or early twenties. They can include:
- Irregular or no periods which make it difficult to get pregnant
- Excessive hair growth – usually on the face, chest, back or buttocks
- Weight gain
- Thinning hair and hair loss from the head
- Oily skin or acne.
How does laser therapy work?
The laser emits an intense beam of light which passes safely through the upper skin layers to the underlying strata to eliminate the hair follicles.
How many treatments are needed?
Treatments last between ten and 40 minutes depending on the areas to be treated. Due to the natural growth cycle of each hair follicle, an average of five treatments should achieve maximum results. Each follicle goes through growing and resting phases and the hair responds best to laser hair therapy in the growing phase. Your fully qualified nurse practitioner will be able to advise you on the duration of your treatment at your initial consultation. Please note that a patch test costing £25 will be required.
Which areas do you treat?
Nose, ears, upper lip, chin, whole face, jawline, sideburns, abdomen, arms, back, chest, fingers, hands, neck, nipples, shoulder, stomach, bikini line, buttocks, feet, hip, legs and toes.
Will the hair be permanently removed?
Most people see a reduction in hair growth of between 60 – 95% after a course of five or more treatments.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
Most patients tolerate laser hair removal very well. It can cause a slight stinging sensation or pinch, much like an elastic band snapping your skin. It is generally accepted that laser hair removal is more comfortable than waxing or electrolysis.
Is the process safe?
This process is completely harmless and totally safe when administered by one of our trained specialists. There will be no long term side effects.
